Air Rescue on Trail 100 Phoenix AZ
A few weeks ago a couple of friends (both who are named Chad) were going down one of the most remote and technical trails in the Phoenix Mountain Preserve when Chad went head first over the handle bars and piled himself into the rocks. I received a call from Non-crashed Chad to help carry him out. While in route, we decided the best plan was to call 911 as Crashed Chad was immobilized, in a ton of pain and going into shock. The Phoenix Fire Department did a fantastic job … [Read More...]

Don’t Miss Out on Mountain Biking in the Moonlight
Every summer, Maricopa County Parks and Recreation put on night rides at McDowell Mountain Regional Park, Estrella Mountain Park and San Tan Mountain Regional Park. These rides are great! Make sure you bring a high powered light, helmet and plenty of water. Also, make sure you bring a little cash with you, because each park has a vehicle parking fee. These aren't guided tours, but the trails are marked well and volunteers will sweep the course at the end of the … [Read More...]
White Tank Regional Park Mountain Bike Ride
Had a great mountain bike ride today on the competitive loop out at White Tank Regional Park with Ben and Wyll. The trail is in very good shape. We rode 21 miles which was 3 laps non-stop. It took me about 7 miles to warm up, feeling very sluggish at the beginning. Both of Ben and Wyll are very strong and fast. If you chase those 2 around, it will only make you faster. I felt like my training wasn't progressing very well trying to hang on to their wheels, but by … [Read More...]
F.I.N.S. – Fantasy Island North Singletrack
I couldn't ride my usual Wednesday night mountain bike ride, because it was my son Ryder's 4th birthday. Happy Birthday Ryder! I decided to go out to the Thursday night mountain bike ride out at F.I.N.S. or Fantasy Island North Singletrack, about an 1 hour 20 minute drive from my house during rush hour. It is located back behind Estrella Mountain Park, around 175th avenue. The sweet single track is worth the drive. The guys who built these trails did an awesome … [Read More...]
Mountain Bike in the Moonlight at McDowell Mountain Park
I finally got out to one of the mountain bike night rides put on by Maricopa Parks and Recreation at McDowell Mountain Regional Park. I have been a few times in past years, but haven't been able to make it this year. It is getting more popular every year. If you haven't been out there for one of these, you need to go. The turn out is awesome! I heard that officially there were 140 mountain bikers, but there were more than that, because not everyone registers (not … [Read More...]
Desert Classic to Telegraph Pass – South Mountain Park
Amazing! I got to ride my mountain bike in the middle of the day in the middle of the summer. Why? The monsoon rains kept the temperature below 100 degrees. I headed out on Desert Classic in a slight drizzle about 3:30pm, hoping for more days like this during the summer. I decided to test my endurance, since I haven't been riding to much because of the heat, and I don't like to get up at 5am to ride my bike. So, I decided to go to Telegraph Pass and back. I felt … [Read More...]
The Barn Burner is Back On
Time to start training again! As most of you know, the Barn Burner was postponed June 19th, because of the Eagle Rock fire in the Flagstaff area. It has been rescheduled for September 11th, 2010. I'm glad to see that is back on. The tough part is going to be training for the race in Phoenix in the middle of summer. All participants should get an email from the organizers. The email has a link to RSVP for the race. They also will be opening up a limited number of … [Read More...]
Trail 100 – Phoenix Mountain Preserve Mountain Bike Ride
Our Wednesday mountain bike was at Trail 100 this week. Tysen, Ramon and I started our ride at 6:15. The temperature wasn't that bad, but the humidity was high. The monsoons were all around us, but never quite reaching us. We started at the parking lot on 40th and Shea, leaving the parking lot to the south. Tysen started out at a blistering pace. Ramon and I were suffering while trying to stay on his wheel. Both of us were thinking to ourselves, "Has he been … [Read More...]
Desert Classic Mountain Bike Ride
Tysen and I went for a mountain bike ride about 6:15pm out at Desert Classic. It was really hot! We started out strong, but the heat got to us at about 6 miles into the ride. We both need to get acclimatized to the heat. It usually takes 2 or 3 rides in the heat for it not to effect you too much. The arriving monsoon really helped out late in the ride. It cooled down and started to rain a little bit. Discover Biking in Scottsdale, Arizona! Phoenix/Scottsdale … [Read More...]
